Remembering Roselle, a heroic 9/11 guide dog

Roselle's Story

Roselle, a yellow Labrador retriever, was one of the many heroic guide dogs who worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks. She was paired with Michael Hingson, a blind man who worked at the World Trade Center. Hingson credits Roselle with saving his life by leading him down 78 flights of stairs to safety.

Roselle and Hingson became national celebrities after the attacks. They appeared on television shows and magazine covers, and their story was told in a book called "Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust."

Roselle retired from guiding work 10 years ago and sadly passed away at age 13 in 2011. She will always be remembered as a hero who helped save lives on 9/11.
