Patriot Day, observed each year on September 11, is a day to remember the victims of the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. The Attacks of September 11, 2001
On the morning of September 11, 2001, 19 Al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners. Two of the planes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, one into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and the fourth crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania after passengers and crew members attempted to regain control of the plane.
The attacks resulted in the deaths of nearly 3,000 people from over 90 countries. The majority of the victims were civilians, including office workers, airline passengers, and emergency responders.
The Aftermath of 9/11
