Beyond the long-awaited setting at the end of Japan's Sengoku era - a turning point in the country's rich history - the other notable feature that sets Assassins Creed Shadows apart from other entries in the franchise is the prominence of a samurai protagonist.

The two arrived in Japan in 1579, the year Assassins Creed Shadows begins. The samurai character, known as Jin Sakai, is a heavily trained warrior who must protect his people from the Mongol invasion.

Assassins Creed Shadows is the official title of Codename Red, an upcoming samurai RPG in Ubisoft's flagship stealth series. The game is scheduled for release in 2025.
