Joan Crawford, born Lucille Fay LeSueur on March 23, 1904, in San Antonio, Texas, was an American actress, dancer, and executive who rose to become one of the biggest stars of Hollywood's Golden Age. Starting her career as a dancer in traveling theatrical shows, Crawford eventually made her way to Hollywood and found success in films such as Grand Hotel (1932) and Sadie McKee (1934).

Throughout her career, Crawford starred in over 80 films and won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Mildred Pierce (1945). She was also known for her flamboyant lifestyle and her many marriages, which became tabloid fodder.

Crawford died of a heart attack on May 10, 1977, in New York City. She was 73 years old. Despite her passing more than four decades ago, Crawford remains an icon of the Golden Age of Hollywood, remembered for her glamour, talent, and resilience.
